Abstract:
There is a strong need in many tropical countries for good quality vegetable seeds.
Importation from outside the tropical countries are often limited for various reasons, such as shortages of foreign currency, danger of importing unadaptable varieties, disease problems, etc.
Although not all vegetable varieties can be produced in the tropics, efforts can be made to produce locally seeds for a certain number of vegetables.
In doing so, certain hazards often encountered in such attempts should be avoided.
These include such dangers as cross pollination, contamination with seedborne diseases and pests, seed deterioration through faulty storage and so on.
