Abstract:
Vein streaking is a disorder of stored cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var capitata L.) affecting more severely the outer-head leaves.
Generally, slight to moderate damages were located on the abaxial side and severe damages on both sides of the leaves at the basal part of the midrib.
In severely affected leaves, the damages remained superficial but symptoms of dark and thick cell wall, typical of necrotic epidermal cells, were also found in the perivascular parenchyma.
A constant number of outer-head leaves must be examined per head for the proper assessment of vein streaking severity.
Suggestion is made to grade on a severity chart the first 3 leaves of each head of triplicates samples of 3 to 4 heads.
