ISHS Acta Horticulturae 157: Postharvest Handling of Vegetables

PREFACE

Author:   J. Apeland
Abstract:
The fifth symposium about problems related to storage was arranged by the working group "Post-harvest handling of vegetables" at Montreal University, Quebec, Canada. June 4–8 1984. It was also a joint meeting with the Tetrapartite Program (Canada, France, U.K. and USA) which deals with storage of fruits.

The symposium was attended by about 65 participants from 9 countries. The majority of the participants came from Canada and USA; disappointing few from European countries and some from other parts of the world.

About 45 papers covering different fields of post-harvest, several posters and excursion made the meeting very interesting and informative. In my opinion the joint meeting was a success. The discussions with scientist from a broader field were also very valuable.

Hospitality, good and cheap accomodation and good weather added to the success. Our sincere thanks go to professor C.T. Phan and all his coworkers who made this meeting possible. We also want to thank the University of Montreal for financial support, and Agriculture Canada for providing the translation service and the printing of this issue of Acta Horticulturae. The interpreters did an excellent job, however, I am in favour of using only English at such meetings.

The next meeting is scheduled for 1988 in Europe (Belgium or U.K.).
