BLACK FRUIT - AND STEM ROT CAUSED BY DIDYMELLA BRYONIAE AN IMPORTANT DISEASE OF GLASSHOUSE CUCUMBER - NEW TO POLAND

Author:   B. Leski
Abstract:
Fruit - and stem rot of forcing cucumber caused by D. bryoniae is reported for the first time in Poland. It has been found in above 250 cucumber crops over the country. The pathogen was repeatedly isolated and identified. Considerable damage to the crop was occasionally observed, especially on the first in Poland large scale /2 ha/ commercial autumn crop. Of several cultivars observed F1 Sandra considerably less suffered than the others. Short fruits of cultivars Iwa and Skierniewicki were much less affected than in the other cultivars under natural infection by D. bryoniae. The results of observations suggest that the pathogen may be considerably involved in fruitless abortion.
