ECONOMICAL ASPECTS OF YIELD ESTIMATIONS IN CITRICULTURE

Authors:   M.D. de Miguel, V. Caballer
Abstract:
The need to introduce more elaborate techniques for estimating yields and qualities, in order to obtain a greater discrimination in the liquidation of the crops among the members in the horticultural trading cooperatives and more concretely in the citrus ones, is planned in this work.

In this way, the evolution of the yields of Satsuma, Navelina and Navel varieties from the seasons 76–77 to 82–83, in a cooperative situated in the South of the province of Valencia, is analysed. From these data, it can be affirm that the annual mean yields cannot be used in the estimation of the individual crop because they have a high coefficient of variation, although it tends to decrease with the time.

A function of annual individual yields is formulated an estimated from the existent data about yields of previous years and the age of the orchard stated by them. The age, in this case, hardly explain the individual yields, while in the temporal series, more concretely, the individual yields of determinate years explain better the individual yields of a year, which is an endogenous variable. The model behaves satisfactorily in the estimate of the provincial crop.
