Abstract:
The price-determining factors in Dutch flower auctions have been investigated.
Both the moment of selling and the quality of product were involved in the price-model.
This model has been estimated for the lots of the spray-carnation variety "Tony" on the flower auction "West-land". Seven periods of five weeks have been analyzed of which three with Dutch as well as Israeli lots.
The main conclusions are:
- About 70% of the price-differences in a five-week period is caused by fluctuations in the day-price level;
- The price-fall between the begin and the end of the auction day amounts to almost 20 cts/bunch;
- There is a significant relation between the bunch weight and the price;
- Inspection remarks cause a price-decrease of about 10% of the day-price level.
