INFLUENCE OF SOLAR HEATING AND THERMAL SCREEN ON THE GREENHOUSE CLIMATE AND THE YIELD OF PEPPER (CAPSICUM ANNUUM L.)

Authors:   G. BOESMAN, M. Derouich, H. Verlodt
Abstract:
Two solar heated greenhouses were compared with a check one. The one was equiped with radiant mulch film tubes covering the soil for 40% and the other one with an additional permanent thermal screen of PVC.

Minimum air and soil temperature were the highest in the solar- heated greenhouse combined with the thermal screen. There were only small differences between the check greenhouse and the solar heated one without thermal screen.

Growth and early yield of three Capsicum annum varieties ('Beldi', 'Anaheim M' and 'College 64 L' were the best in the heated greenhouse combined with the screen and lower in the check one. There was only small differences in total yield between the three greenhouses. A lower total yield was noticed in the greenhouse with the permanent thermal screen.
