THERMAL FILMS AND LUMINOUS CASCADE FILMS AS COVERING MATERIAL FOR GREENHOUSES

Author:   P. Fortier
Abstract:
The properties of normal PE films have been ameliorated by additives permitting the obtention of a good opacity in the far infra-red and a very good transparency to the solar radiation.

Combination of this additives with EVA was also realized and the opacity in the infra-red zone was also better than for the normal EVA.

Agronomical results with both films (Polyane A1 3F Thermic and Celloflex 4) are presented and discussed.

The principles of the luminous cascade film has been presented and discussed. Addition of several pigments can be used and is resulting in different properties. More transparent films in certain zones of the visual spectrum, and this in spite of a lower total luminosity, can be obtained and should result in higher plant activity. On the other hand films with shading properties can also be realized.

Results with luminous cascade films of the more transparent type have been projected and discussed, while the perspectives of the use of such films for mulching are also discussed.
