| Abstract:
Liriomyza trifolii mainly attacks the post-cotyledon leaves (F1) of french bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Other leaves are less affected for reasons which are not yet known. Plants with and without F1 have been compared, using intervals of 1 to 8 days: the statistical analysis shows a significant difference for the total number of pods, number of seeds and the weight of 100 seeds. No difference has been found for the date of maturity. The F1 leaves are attacked for up to 8 days after development, that is just before the second threefold leaf (F3) appears. Liriomyza damage occurs in 8 days at 25°C and in 6,5 days at 30°C, resulting in a 20% reduction of yield in case of a heavy attack. If good agricultural techniques such as clear weeding are used, lower levels of damage are obtained. There is no need for chemical control if the normal parasites are active. | |
