THE INFLUENCE OF PHOSPHORUS FERTILISATION AND SPACING ON GROWTH AND FRUITING OF BELL PEPPERS (CAPSICUM ANNUUM L.)

Authors:   D.K. Mwamba, K. Waithaka
Abstract:
A study of the influence of phosphorus fertiliser levels and spacing (plant density) on growth and fruiting of bell peppers (Yolo Wonder) was conducted.

Fruit yield per plot increased with increasing fertiliser level and plant density, but the number of fruits per plant decreased with increasing plant density.

Phosphorus fertiliser promoted earlier fruiting. Phosphorus at 100 kg ha-1 significantly increased the shoot dry matter accumulation, but increasing the fertiliser level up to 300 kg ha-1 did not promote any further increase in dry matter accumulation.

Both shoot and fruit dry matter accumulation per plant decreased with increasing plant density per plot.
