| Abstract:
Despite the restrictions imposed in the last few years, methylbromide is still an important chemical soil-fumigant for a number of crops in the Dutch horticultural industry. This can be accredited to its range of effectiveness and the greater applicability of this medium in comparison with other soil-fumigants. Methylbromide is a very toxic, volatile and odorless substance. It is corrosive for certain materials (rubber, synthetics and leather). From the labour-hygienic point of view methylbromide can be extremely dangerous for its users. The Labour Inspectorate has therefore paid a great deal of attention over the years to firms using this medium as a soil-fumigant; in particular, with regard to equipment, personal protection and expertise of personnel. | |
