THE EXPERIMENTAL GARDEN FOR RESEARCH ON FIRE BLIGHT AT OUWERKERK, THE NETHERLANDS |

| Abstract:
Since October 1981, the field plot near Ouwerkerk in the south-western part of The Netherlands, measuring about 0.75 ha, has been in use for trials. Research concerns 1) screening for resistance for fire blight in the ornamental Cotoneaster, Crataegus, Pyracantha, and Sorbus species, 2) screening for resistance in native hawthorn clones, 3) evaluation of the real value of pear cultivars with qualities of resistance, 4) chemical control of fire blight, and 5) evaluation of the "Billingsystem" for prediction of the disease risk and extension of it to a warning system for use in fruit growing and arboriculture. | |
