SHOOT SUSCEPTIBILITY TO FIREBLIGHT OF SOME APPLE CULTIVARS

Authors:   M. LE LEZEC, J.P. PAULIN
Abstract:
After testing 31 apple cultivars in the South West of France, the varietal index of susceptibility (I.V.S.) (length of necrosis/length of inoculated shoot × 100) enabled us to divide the cultivars in 5 classes (10–20), (20–40), (40–60), (60–80), (80–100).

The 80% of the apple production in France are of low susceptibility on shoots: 'Golden Delicious', 'Red Delicious'.

'Granny Smith' (6% of the production) is moderately susceptible.

'Reine des Reinettes' (syn. 'Queen of the Pippins'), (Reinette Clochard' and 'Idared' are highly susceptible.

The scab resistant varieties 'Querina (R) Florina', 'Prima' and 'Priam' are among the less susceptible varieties.
