ISHS Acta Horticulturae 151: III International Workshop on Fire Blight

COMPARISON OF THE EFFICIENCY OF SOME CHEMICALS IN PREVENTING FIREBLIGHT BLOSSOM INFECTIONS

Authors:   J.P. PAULIN, G. LACHAUD
Abstract:
In order to compare the efficiency of chemicals against fireblight with that of streptomycin and copper compounds, which are widely used for the control of this disease, Cotoneaster salicifolius floccosus are inoculated with a bacterial suspension on blossoms, after spraying with the chemical to be tested. This kind of experiment, carried out during three successive years, show that, under our conditions, Bordeaux spray always gives the best prevention of the infection. Fungicides and industrial biocides are not efficient. No experimental chemicals give results significatively better than streptomycin.
