CAPILLARY WATERING OF CUT CHRYSANTHEMUM |

| Abstract:
Spray Chrysanthemum were grown on benches, one meter wide, with a 7x7 cm gully in the middle. On the bench were placed capillary mats of different thicknesses. The edge of the mats was placed in the gully which contained a complete nutrient solution. The plants were grown in rockwool cubes (5x5 cm), Jiffy-7 and 8 cm plastic pots (Vefi) with peat. The plants in the middle of the bench, close to the gully, obtained the best growth. The rockwool cubes along the outer edge of the bench dried out rather rapidly, especially when thin capillary mats were used. Plants in 8 cm plastic pots obtained a fairly good growth at the outer edge of the bench even on thin capillary mats. The water content of the mats was satisfactory near the gully. The mats were, however, too dry along the outer edge especially when thin capillary mats were used. The accumulation of nutrient elements increased from the gully to the edge of the bench. | |
