PINE BARK AS SUBSTRATE FOR PRIMULA AND PETUNIA

Authors:   C. Deulofeu, J. Aguila Vila
Abstract:
In this paper the possibilities of preparing suitable substrate -- using composting pine bark from Spain are discussed.

The composting of the pine bark is scientifically controlled giving a substrate with recommended physical properties for ornamental plants. The concentrations of Mn are well below toxic levels. Preliminary -- trials show that it is suppressive for Rhizoctonia. The experiments done with Primula sp. and Petunia sp. show that it is a suitable substrate capable of substituting spaghnum peat.
