ISHS Acta Horticulturae 150: International Symposium on Substrates in Horticulture other than Soils In Situ

WATER RETENTION CHARACTERISTICS OF SOME SUBSTRATES USED IN TURKEY

Authors:   I. Ünver, Y. Ataman, N. Munsuz
Abstract:
Moisture retention characteristics and some other properties of dry poplar leaves, creek sand, silvabark, raw turf, coarse and very coarse expanded perlite, and volcanic tuff were studied in comparison with a representative loamy soil. It was determined that raw turf, poplar leaves and creek sand may require to be reclaimed; the media consisting less nutrients may be more reliable from a standpoint of fertilizing management. Some media involved to be closely followed for reaction changes and for the application of irrigation and fertilization programs.
