Abstract:
The influence of temperature and temperature fluctuations on the pollen germination of different cultivars of apple, pear and Malus were examined.
In 1981, 21 apple cultivars, 14 pear cultivars and 9 Malus cultivars were examined at continuous temperatures of 5 °C, 10°C and 20°C and at temperatures fluctuating from 5 to 10°C and from 5 to 20°C. In 1983, 27 apple cultivars, 11 pear cultivars and 9 Malus cultivars were examined at continuous temperatures of 4°C and 20°C and at 4°C followed by 20°C.
For some regions, it can be very useful to plant pollinator cultivars with high pollen germination vigour at continuous low or temporary low temperatures.
