Abstract:
Greenhouse tomatoes were grown in two similar greenhouses, one covered with single glass, the other with a new twin-wall PVC panel, and their growth, development and yields were compared during two spring and one fall seasons.
Plant growth and development were better under glass than under PVC during the light-deficient months of the year, but better under PVC than under glass during the bright months of the year.
Marketable yields in the early part of the spring season and final marketable yields in the fall were higher under glass than under PVC, but final marketable yields in the spring were higher under PVC than under glass.
Fruit size and percent grade #1 fruit were higher under PVC than under glass in all experiments.
