Abstract:
Thermal screens can reduce the heat consumption of greenhouses considerably.
The possible amount of saving is mainly influenced by the choice of the screen material and by the sealing between the heated and the unheated part of the greenhouse.
Whereas many informations are abailable about the influence of different screen materials on energy saving, the effectiveness of the complete system has to be proved for every specific installation in the farm.
This requires cheap and simple evaluation methods.
Two methods of checking the tightness and the percentual energy saving of specific thermal screen installations are described.
The applicability of the evaluation methods could be proved winter 1982/83 with measurements in commercial greenhouses with various types of screens.
