GREENHOUSE HEATING WITH LOW TEMPERATURE REJECT HEAT FROM A PETROCHEMICAL PLANT

Author:   T. D. Ellis
Abstract:
A greenhouse operating on waste heat from an ethylene production plant at Joffre, Alberta, has provided an effective growing environment. The large size of 1.95 hectare and continuous operation of the ethylene plant have contributed to the cost effectiveness of the system. The heating source is directly injected coolant water for a cracking process. This heat is transferred to plant cooling water which is sent to the greenhouse at 40 to 50°C. and is used directly in unit heaters.
