Abstract:
Although geothermal energy resources, potentially suitable for use as a cost-effective heat source for commercial greenhouses, are widely distributed throughout the western U.S., very few large geothermally-heated greenhouses are currently in operation.
Geothermal resource availability, development strategies, capital and operating costs, environmental conditions, advantages of geothermal heating systems, and impacts of geothermal heat on horticultural productivity, all appear to support the near-term expansion of the geothermally-heated greenhouse industry.
