Abstract:
The main subject was presented in 14 papers dealing with production planning, methods, principles and goals of glasshouse floriculture.
At the basis for utilizing such programs are plants and crops, a number of papers also elucidaded biological processes around propagation, growth, flower initiation, -development and environmental factors.
All production planning should be started in the marketing regime: What can be sold? How much? Potentialities? Changing demands?
Free enterprise has been the rule in flower production.
The future development indicate that a planning policy would be desireable, where every grower finds his crop type and size.
It is macropolicy and micropolicy combined.
It was shown how registration of the production in long terms and short terms became a good tool for marketing.
The producer must be convinced of the benefit hereof and be learned to be very exact in number, delivering time and quality.
The figures stated form his production strategy.
Competition between sales organisations must be combined with cooperation.
Standardisation of transport, containers etc. and mutual marketing promotion are practical areas of work.
The Danish planning system was on purpose given a rather dominating place in the program.
The reason for using this tool was first of all a crisis.
The goals, objects, plans and budget were described and the term dynamic could be explained as "planning is nothing worth if it cannot be changed".
"Better solve the 70 per cent and let the grower and his adviser do the rest than wait for a hundred per cent approach!"
Before planned production can take place, a number of biological figures must be available: growing period (in weeks) through the whole year, space requirements, stock plant production, and uniformity.
Experimental stations can take part herein and make detailled culture programs (blueprints) available.
It is important that greenhouses, watering technique, substrates and pots are standardised as much as possible for maximum use of the data given.
