Abstract:
Production planning means that the plants undergo the different stages of development in accordance with a prefixed growing programme.
Therefore it is important to know the lengths of all the growth and developmental phases and to know the plants' reactions on the growing conditions.
In Denmark experiments have been carried out during the past fifteen years in order to develop standard growing programmes for pot plants.
Experiences in Danish nurseries provide the basic knowledge for the programmes and the experiments are created to verify the different opinions.
Treatments are chosen so that they are close to the expected optimum growing conditions.
The experiments are carried out at the time of the year when the growers normally produce the crop and/or when they have special problems.
Temperature and CO2 -concentration are the most tested factors because they often affect date of sale, plant quality and energy consumption per plant considerably.
Results from experiments with Saintpaulia, Hibiscus, Hedera and Ficus are used as examples.
