Abstract:
A pruning technique, which varies distinctly from those being practiced in North America and Europe, is based on balancing tree vigor through regulation of the strength and distribution of apical dominance.
Highest priorities are assigned to development of the first tier of main branches on the trunk, utilization of temporary axillary branches and establishment of "Zhizu" clusters of fruiting wood.
This technique results in a reduction of canopy height, an improvement of light penetration, an increase of fruiting wood and decrease of the scaffold structure, an increase in early yield, high sustained crops, and an enhancement of fruit quality and color.
