ISHS Acta Horticulturae 146: International Workshop on Controlling Vigor in Fruit Trees

CONTROLLING EXCESSIVE PEACH TREE TERMINAL GROWTH

Authors:   D.C. Coston, C.E. Gambrell Jr
Abstract:
Post harvest sprays of mefluidide (N-(2,4-dimethyl-5-(((trifluoromethyl) sulfonyl) amino) phenyl) acetamide) at 1000 and 2000 ppm reduced growth of bearing peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch cv. Camden). Flowering and fruiting the following year were reduced. Dikegulac (sodium salt of 2, 3, 4, 6 bis-0–1(1-methylethylidene)-L-xylo-2-hexulofuranosonic acid) sprays (1000 and 1500 ppm) reduced tree growth and had little effect on flowering or fruiting the next season. Dikegulac caused death of terminals. A PP528 (ethyl 5-(4-chlorophenyl)-2H-tetrazole acetate) spray (400 ppm) had no effect on growth but caused curling of leaves along the axis. Mepiquat chloride (N-N-dimethyl-piperidinium chloride) reduced vegetative growth and reduced flowering the next spring.
