EFFECT OF SOME GROWTH SUBSTANCES UPON ROOTING OF CUTTINGS, YIELD AND ALKALOID CONTENT OF CATHARANTHUS ROSEUS

Authors:   A. Sadowska, M. Racka, J. Staszkiewicz, M. Sadowska
Abstract:
Soft shoot cuttings of Catharanthus rose us may be rooted easily without using any growth substances. NAA, IAA and Seradix did not have any effect on rooting. The best rooting was obtained using lateral shoots with a heel. GA3 applied in a form of spray to seedlings at the stage of 3–4 leaves - at concentrations of 50, 100 or 500 mg/l increased the height of plants but reduced the yield; this was particularly true at the highest concentration applied. IAA reduced the yield when used as a spray at 0.1 mg/l. GA3 reduced the alkaloid concentration and yield. Kinetin applied at 50 mg/l increased the alkaloid concentration in the roots and the total yield of alkaloids.
