Abstract:
Two sets of variety trials were established at Sennar Research Station in 1972. The first trial comparised the valencia group and the other navel group.
Tree growth was rather unsatisfactory due to incidence of gummosis.
Few trees came into bearing in 1978. Of the valencia group "Frost", "Diller" and "Local Selection" did not flower and were considered as late bearers. "Butler", "Hamlin" and "Campbell" consistently outyielded the others. "Olinda" gave larger fruits compared to the other cultivars.
The highest soluble solids were obtained from fruits produced by "Butler", "Olinda" produced the lowest.
The local cultivars "Sinnari" and "Local Selection" produced few seeds per fruit and were considered commercially seedless. "Butler" was a seedy variety.
