Abstract:
Thirteen cultivars of grapefruit grown at Sennar Research Farm were subjected to a comparative study for a five year period.
Results indicated that the local cultivars, were early bearers and less vigorous in growth, compared to the introduced cultivars. "Foster", "Duncan", "White", "Davis" and "Miami", were among the high yielding cultivars.
Fruit weight was inconsistent and varied within a singel cultivar, among cultivars and seasons.
The juice volume varied among the various cultivars with "Carpenter" giving the maximum juice volume per fruit and "Frost Marsh" the lowest.
Total soluble solids ranged between 7 – 11% sucrose and total acidity varied from 0.93 – 1.3 % citric acid among the different cultivars.
