ISHS Acta Horticulturae 143: VIII African Symposium on Horticultural Crops

PERFORMANCE OF CITRUS IN THE IRRIGATED HEAVY CLAY SOILS OF CENTRAL SUDAN. II. LIME.

Authors:   Osman A. Sidahmed, Ahmed A. Geneif
Abstract:
One local and two introduced cultivars of lime were evaluated at the Sennar Research Station, for five cropping seasons. The local cultivar produced significantly higher yields than the introduced cultivars. "Bearss" outyielded "Tahiti" during the first two cropping seasons, however, the situation was reversed for the last three seaons. Tree vigour as measured by canopy volume showed "Tahiti" to be more vigorous followed in a decreasing order by "Baladi" and "Bearss".

The quality attributes of "Bearss" especially the large size of the fruit, volume of the juice, flavour and seedlessness make it distinctive variety especially for juice processing.
