ISHS Acta Horticulturae 143: VIII African Symposium on Horticultural Crops

PERFORMANCE OF CITRUS IN THE IRRIGATED HEAVY CLAY SOILS OF CENTRAL SUDAN. I. LEMON.

Authors:   Osman A. Sidahmed, Ahmed A. Geneif
Abstract:
The performance of six Eureka lemon cultivars was evaluated at Sennar Research Station for five seasons. Yield analysis revealed that all the introduced cultivars were more productive than the local cultivar with "Cascade" and "Allen" giving the highest yield. Tree growth as measured by canopy volume showed the introduced cultivars to be more vigorous than the local ones. Fruit weight was inconsistent and varied within a cultivar among cultivars and seasons. Frequently, however, the introduced cultivar gave significantly larger fruits than the local one. Fruits from the local cultivar contained significantly fewer seeds than that of the introduced cultivars.

Juice weight and volume, total soluble solids and total titratable acidity did not differ significantly among the various cultivars.
