THE INFLUENCE OF MOTHER PLANT MINERAL NUTRITION ON SEED YIELD AND QUALITY OF TOMATO (LYCOPERSICON ESCULENTUM MILL.)

Authors:   B. H. Mahmoud, R. A.T. George
Abstract:
Tomato cv. Moneymaker grown in pots under glass was tested under different nutrient levels.

Two levels of nitrogen (N1 = 7.9, N2 = 11.3 g/pot), two levels of phosphorus (P1 = 2.99, P2 = 3.8 g/pot) and two levels of potassium (K1 = 14.3, K2 = 17.3 g/pot) were examined. The fruit yield and mean weight of individual fruit increased significantly with N, while seed yield and seed number per plant were significantly higher at the high level of N and its interaction with P. The percentage germination increased significantly with N main effect and NP and NPK interactions.
