THE PRESENT OUTLOOK AND FUTURE TRENDS

Paul Daum, an American travels frequently to Latin America in his business. He speaks fluent Spanish and has been actively consulting with carnation growers ever since the carnation industry began in South and Central America.

Abraham Halevy is the father of the cut flower industry in Israel. He helped build up the expertise in flower growing by teaching his students the fundamentals of flower production. He is the author of over 300 physiological papers. Practically all the people in Israel's flower industry have been someway influenced by Professor Halevy and his teachings. He is presently on sabbatical leave in the Department of Environmental Horticulture, at the University of California, Davis.

Richard Kingman, known as Dick to all the many growers that he has been associated with in the Colorado carnation area, has been associated with the American carnation industry for many years and is very familar with its history. He was executive secretary of the American Carnation Society until a few years ago when it was disbanned. Dick is presently the Executive Vice President of the Colorado Greenhouse Association in Denver.

Dr. Leo Sparnaaij is one of the foremost carnation geneticists in the world. He travels throughout Europe to confer with floriculturists and growers in his search for plant materials. He is deeply involved in a carnation breeding program which shows much promise for the future of the carnation industry. Several of his papers appear in this issue of Acta Horticulturae.
