Abstract:
Improved yield distribution would greatly increase profitability of carnation growing in W. Europe.
Crosses between normal spray types and the species Dianthus chinensis and D. knappii have resulted in types with high production and good yield distribution.
In combination with modern cultural methods to regulate flowering, such as day length control and/or growth retardants, a one-year cropping cycle may become more profitable.
