THE INFLUENCE OF FERTILIZATION ON FLOWER CALYX SPLITTING IN CARNATIONS

Author:   E. Skalská
Abstract:
In the pink-flower carnation variety 'Lena' the number of flowers with split calyx per 1 m2 was not influenced significantly by the fertilization of the plants to the required level of nutrients in soil. This conclusion was reached in individual year seasons as well as in the whole period of the experiment. Similarly, no significant influence was exerted on the average percentage of flowers with split calyx out of the total number of flowers harvested per 1 square metre. The greatest number of flowers with split calyx was obtained in spring, in the period from 16 February to 15 May.
