Abstract:
The spread and control of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi and F. redolens in carnations on artificial substrates i.e. rockwool and a recirculating Nutrient Film Technique system, were studied.
Spread of Fusarium, introduced in both artificial substrates, was very rapid, especially in NFT, and resulted in heavy attacks, starting within ca a month after inoculation.
Systemic fungicides, added to the substrates before introducing the pathogen, could postpone or even prevent an attack of Fusarium wilt.
Control of the disease by adding a systemic fungicide after symptoms appeared, proved to be very difficult or even impossible.
