ALTERATION ON INCIDENCE OF FUSARIUM WILT OF CARNATION BY SUPPRESSIVE SOILS |

| Abstract:
After a search in agricultural areas in southern France in 1974, we saw that Carnation wilt was not widespread in the plantations on Pudding stones of the Pliocene. Later four alluvial soils of quite different origins proved to be suppressive too. With one exception the nature of the suppressiveness in of biological origin : it can be destroyed by steaming and is transmissible to conducive substrates. The reduction of infection rate after transmission and the time of the protection are different according to the substrate receptiveness (for instance, perlite is better than peat) and the percentage of suppressive soil included : with 20 p. cent, the wilt rate is greatly reduced for at least 4 years, 5 p. cent and less is sufficient only for a few months. | |
