| Abstract:
Flower bud initiation under influence of growth retarding substances is already known for several years. Cathey (1) mentioned already this effect on some woody ornamental plants. Later on the same effect has been found in fruit culture too. For references see Wertheim (6). For these reasons it was worth while studying the effects of B-9 (N-dimethyl-aminosuccinamic acid) and CCC((2-chloroethyl) trimethylammonium chloride) on lilac, which are dealt with in this publication. In practice only sufficient flower buds are formed in the culture of lilac for cut flowers if the outmost parts of the roots of the shrubs are pruned, to stop growth in the period of the start of the flower bud initiation at about 15 June. This work is hard, therefore not in demand and ever more uneconomical. This was another reason for these experiments. | |
