ISHS Acta Horticulturae 14: Symposium on Flower Regulation in Florist Crops

AN EFFECT OF DAYLENGTH ON THE FLOWERING OF DAHLIAS

Author:   A.E. Canham
Abstract:
Trials have shown that many cultivars of Dahlia variabilis are long-day plants for flower development, long days promoting and short days inhibiting the formation of ray florets. Results are given of trials carried out during short natural days using artificial light to provide a brief "night break" with a number of cultivars and the horticultural implications of this response are discussed.
