THE ROLE OF SCENTS IN POLLINATION BY THE HONEYBEE (APIS MELL. L.)

Authors:   J.P. van Praagh, W. von der Ohe
Abstract:
Using pesticides - non toxic to bees - in orchards during full bloom forces pollinating honeybees to leave, due to repelling odours. The repelling odour of Captan e.g. can be masked effectively by a herbal "bitter". Tests using compounds from the herbal fraction of the highly active bitters have resulted in better cropping.
