EFFECTS OF THE DIFFERENT FLOWER/VEGETATIVE BUDS RATIO ON THE PEACH FRUIT ABSCISSION AND GROWTH

Authors:   G. Costa, C. Giulivo, A. Ramina
Abstract:
Different ratios between fruit buds (FB) and leaf buds (LB) were realized by removing FB or LB before bud-break. Theoretical FB/LB ratios of 1, 2 and 4 were attained.

10 days before pit hardening half of the trees of each group were sprayed with CEPA (60 ppm).

Manipulations affected only the drop pattern but not the total drop; the CEPA magnified the fruit natural potential of abscission by inducing a second drop peak. The intensity of CEPA-induced drop was inversely related to the intensity of drop that had occured previously. Observations carried out on growth rate pointed out the dynamics and the complexity of the correlative phenomena in the fruit and shoot growth regulation.
