Abstract:
High volume sprays of GA3 plus an auxin applied post-blossoming increased yields of several sweet cherry cultivars.
Sprays of GA3 plus the auxin 2,4,5-TP (10 ppm) induced larger yield increases than similar sprays containing 2,4,5-T, NAA or NOXA. Yields were regularly increased on the cultivars Van and Merton Glory with only 50 ppm GA3 in the mixture; on other cultivars, such as Early Rivers, yields were consistently increased only when ≥200 ppm GA3 was included.
Multiple sprays, each containing low concentrations of GA3 (≤50 ppm), have induced similar yield increases but less deleterious effects on floral bud numbers than single sprays containing 200 ppm GA3. Effects on fruit size and quality were acceptable.
