FLOWER FORMATION IN BEGONIA BOWERI I. NUMBER OF SHORT DAYS FOR INDUCTION AND CRITICAL DAYLENGTH

Author:   K. Zimmer
Abstract:
At least 3 SD cycles and 6 to 8 hrs of the following light period are necessary for the induction of one inflorescence. Lower critical daylength is about 1 h, upper critical daylength varies with temperature and number of inductive cycles. High temperatures reduce critical daylength. The shorter the inductive period, the shorter should be the critical daylength for the induction of one inflorescence.
