MORPHOLOGICAL STUDIES ON FLOWER FORMATION IN SCHLUMBERGERA TRUNCATA

Author:   K. Bahnemann
Abstract:
In this study flower formation in SCHLUMBERGERA TRUNCATA is presented.

By means of microtomic sections it could be shown, that Schlumbergera requires about 8 short days with temperatures of 16°C for complete flower induction.

Although for complete induction 8 inductive cycles at 16°C are necessary, first morphological changes in meristematic zones of the areoles are to be seen after 6 days. Then flower formation will be incomplete, for under following LD at 20°C further development of buds is inhibited. Studies of flower induction under SD and different temperatures (7 to 19°C) show significant inhibition of flower induction and development by temperatures below 13°C.
