Abstract:
Previous work has shown that changes in the rate of water and nutrient uptake can be detected during the growth period of a tomato crop grown with the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT). The rates of uptake of water, N, P, K, Ca, Mn and B by tomato cultivars Sonatine and Ostona grown with NFT have been determined.
Details of flower and fruit production have also been recorded.
Consideration has been given to the possibility that information about changes in water and nutrient uptake might be used to predict onset of disorders of the root system that lead to reduction in yield and/or fruit quality.
