THE USE OF BARKCOMPOST IN FLORICULTURE IN SPECIAL CONSIDERATION OF NITROGEN NUTRITION

Author:   H.-D. Molitor
Abstract:
Results of incubation experiments with barkcomposts under different conditions are reported. Barkcompost without or with low N-addition before composting shows a considerable decrease in mineral-N content during incubation; NH4-N was immobilized much faster than mineral-N in the nitrate form.

Plant experiments with Euphorbia pulcherrima show a normal plant growth when additional nitrogen was added. Decrease in mineral-N content during incubation was low in barkcompost with sufficient N-addition before composting. After a short period of immobilization a considerable increase in mineral-N content due to mineralization followed.
