ISHS Acta Horticulturae 133: Nutrient Film Technique and Substrates, XXI IHC

FOREWORD

Authors:   HEIKO van der Borg, R. Röber
Abstract:
The Programme Committee of the XXIst INTERNATIONAL HORTICULTURAL CONGRESS in Hamburg decided in consultation with the ISHS, to publish the papers of the most actual topics presented during this Çongress, in 10 volumes in the series of Acta Horticulturae.

As was agreed that the publishing should be realised in the first half of 1983, a number of authors did not succeed in having their paper ready for submission in time, so unfortunately a few had to be left out.

The Programme Committee as well as the ISHS are very grateful for the work done by the convener of this Acta, number 133, titled "Nutrient Film Technique and Substrates."

Secretary General of ISHS

Ir. H.H.van der Borg

PREFACE

First of all I wish to thank all authors of the different contributions and the office of the I.S.H.S. Secretariat for the aid in preparation of this Acta. Strangely enough, some authors did not permit to publish their papers in this volume. I had to respect this.

The discussions and comments could not always be reproduced completely. Due to bad acoustics it was sometimes very difficult to understand people. The acoustics also were the reason, why I could not insert names instead of "question" and "answer". I regret, that possibly some very good and qualified questions and remarks could therefore not be mentioned or ascribed to certain persons. I should like to apologize for this lack of perfection.

The 31 final papers have been put into major sections, namely NFT and Substrates, and subsections relating to commodities. They demonstrate an important part of the development and progress in horticulture presented at the congress in Hamburg.
