EFFECTS OF GIBBERELLIC ACID AND CHLORMEQUAT ON YIELD AND OIL QUALITY OF GERANIUM (PELARGONIUM GRAVEOLENS)

Authors:   B.R. Mohamed, A.A. El-Sayed, A.F.A. Fawzi
Abstract:
Foliar monthly sprays with 100, 200 and 400 ppm gibberellic acid (GA) or with 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm chlormequat (CCC) were applied to geranium in two successive seasons pot experiments. GA increased plant height, herb production and decreased oil percentage and oil yield. On the contrary, chlormequat decreased plant height, while it increased both percentage and yield of oil. Gas liquid chromatography revealed that GA increased linalool and decreased geraniol and citronellol, whereas chlormequat increased geraniol and decreased linalool and citronellol fractions in the extracted oil.
