EFFECT OF IRRIGATION AND PLANT DENSITY ON GROWTH, FRUIT PRODUCTION AND ACTIVE PRINCIPLES OF AMMI VISNAGA

Abstract:
Two experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of irrigation and plant density on the growth, fruit yield and active principles in Ammi visnaga L.( Khella).

The highest dry weight was obtained when the plants were irrigated every 15 days, while irrigation every 30 days gave the highest number of umbels and yield of fruits per plant and per feddan(4200 m2). Dense cultivation has increased the fruits yield but reduced the dry weight and fruit weight per plant.

Neither the irrigation treatments nor the plant density treatments affected the active principles percentage in fruits of A. visnaga plants. Better yield was obtained when the plants irrigated every 30 days by increasing the number of plants up to 3 per hill at distances of 20 cm apart.
