Abstract:
Pre-bloom flowers of 'Kyoho' grapes (Vitis labruscana Bailey), were collected and cultured in vitro on a Nitsch's basal medium or that added with other substances for 15 weeks after planting.
No marked improvement of growth occurred when the ovaries were cultured on the media added with such substances as malt extract, cucumber juice, fresh grape juice and vine sap.
When growth substances, such as BA, NAA and GA alone or their combinations were applied on the basal medium, parthenocarpic growth of grape ovary occurred showing a double sigmoid growth curve.
The largest ovary was obtained on a medium containing BA and the volume of ovaries 15 weeks after planting became 65 times large as compared to that at the initial planting.
Newly developed tissues were recognized near placenta 9 weeks after planting in these ovaries when sectioned transversely.
